Few things in this world make me say "huh?" more than a celebrity in trouble, and the justice system. This pretty much lets my own Legal system out of this little rant, as most of our native kids head south to partake in sun, fun and sin in the Good Ole' USofA. Currently we have Lindsay Lohan, who is more than likely in Court again, for some offense, committed in glamour land, and I am sure is on a first name basis with most of the judges and all of the Bailiffs within the LA county court system. I digress, this is not about her, directly. More so, it is about someone not a celebrity, but I can readily compare to one.
This starts with two hockey playing brothers, the Boogaard brothers, Derek and Aaron. One is dead now, due to mixing and overdosing on prescription drugs, while the other is accused of supplying said drugs. This brings me to compare this to the death of Heath Ledger, and the Olsen twin, Mark-Kate, who was apparently present at the time of Heath's death.
The difference here, is that Aaron Boogaard is accused of having stolen or access to a prescription pad, and was supplying the drugs this way. Mark-Kate, who refused to be interviewed in a Federal Investigation, was allegedly in Heath's apartment, and possessed part of the fatal cocktail that finally killed him. She was apparently then ushered out of the apartment by a bodyguard, leaving Heath dead, or dying of an overdose, He was later found by his housekeeper and masseuse.
Please remember that Mary-Kate's role in all this is speculation, due to the fact that she never went to an interview, even though there was a subpoena demanding her to do so.
Aaron Boogaard will more than likely stand trial soon, for his brothers death.
Now, onto my point. If you really haven't clued into it yet, allow me to elaborate. You see, Aaron Boogaard, was a hockey playing kid, and broke the law. He will stand trial for his crimes, and more than likely, is torturing himself more than any sentence passed onto him by the state will ever do. Im pretty sure I would be destroyed if I was culpable in the death of a family member.
Mary-Kate on the other hand, is not like you and me........ok, she is. She is human, but her status as a celebrity has apparently allowed to her to disregard a legally binding order to be interviewed by Federal agents. I am betting that in all regards, if that was you or I, we would be arrested and hauled in before a Judge to face charges, and then be interviewed.
The Courts seem to have an issue when it comes to prosecuting those Celebs. Whether it is due to their high-priced douche bag lawyers, or family name, not one of them seems to be doing the time for doing the crime. I mean Paris Hilton spent a grand total of 47 minute in jail before being released, and then she turned around and said it was "the most terrifying experience" of her life to date. I am sure it was.....perhaps if she spent more time in there, she would have been more scared. Hell, I don't want to go to prison, pretty sure no one does. But being locked in a cell, by herself, for the running time of her crap ass CD? Perhaps that is what scared her, as it was being played over the prison PA system. I will point out she was not sent to a Federal Super-Max, but a county low sec compound.
Fucking Celebs.
This is under the words of "...liberty and justice for all." I guess we could add, "...Justice for all, unless you have made a movie, CD, or TV show, in which case, we will go through the motions, but whatever you decide to do it really fine with us, as the victims of your transgression have no recourse due to the fact you pay your Lawyer $200K just to take call from you, and more to show up"
This all makes me wonder how the "people" get through sometimes. Some people who have gone to pay a parking or traffic ticket have been made to feel like the worst criminals by some court clerk, or circuit judge. Meanwhile, Lilo gets a full media sweep, armed escorts into and out of the court room, treated according her celebrity status, and given a slap on the wrists, all the while, someone charged with the same crime, is handed a 2 year sentence.
I will shake my head and roll my eyes.
Summing it up, Aaron Boogaard is accused of a crime, and Mary-Kate should have been. They have 22yrs left to do something about that though, one never knows what will happen in the meantime. I do notice that since 2008, both twins have been strangely quiet.
Going to end it here, due to the fact that I have nothing to finish off with, nothing witty, no snide remark, nothing. Perhaps in the future, when we stop treating celebrities as people that are somehow, superior to everyone else, instead of just richer, things will be better.
Maybe.
